Abbotsford hits an all-time high
Construction employment rebounded in July following June's modest downturn and remains in the Lower Mainland Southwest region.
That's the analysis of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association, which looks at the Labour Force Survey from Statistics Canada.
Construction employment in July rose 2.1 per cent from June, to 129,400 thousand, and has increased 12.9 per cent in the first seven months of 2008 compared to 2007.
"Year-to-date construction employment numbers are in the double digits and show that the industry continues to respond positively to the demand for workers," says Keith Sashaw, Vancouver Regional Construction Association president.
'We continue to see growth in the industry, especially in the non-residential construction market."
"Abbotsford in particular continues to show steady growth, posting all-time highs in employment in July for the second consecutive month," says Sashaw.
"We will continue to watch the employment figures in the coming months," says Sashaw. "The strong growth in construction overall may be returning to more normal levels after an unprecedented period of growth."
